mum’s arrangement. March 1, 2007

There are always fresh flowers in my house every week, and in the time that I had not been to the wholesalers, Mum dearest popped by. She doesn’t really spend time agonising, like I do, over what flowers to buy and how they are to be arranged. She just picks ones that catch her eye, and are inexpensive, and puts them together.
Anything I’ve learnt about arrangements, like the different levels or groups of colours, doesn’t really matter to Mum. But they always turn out nice, and this one made me especially happy cuz’ of its bright colours. It was quite a nice surprise when I saw them a few days back. They still look the same today, the carnations have not withered the slightest bit. Maybe I should look into them next.
Till then, smelling the roses.

A few friends have been asking me how many roses they should give their loved ones this Valentine’s day. So I trawled the web and found these.
1 stalk – Love at 1st Sight
2 stalks – Mutual Feelings
3 stalks – I Love You
7 stalks – I am Infatuated by You
9 stalks – Together as Long as We Live
10 stalks- You are Perfect
11 stalks – You are My Treasured One
12 stalks – Be My Steady
13 stalks – Friends Forever
15 stalks – I am Sorry
20 stalks – I am Sincere Towards You
21 stalks – I am Committed to You
36 stalks – I Will Remember Our Romantic Moments
40 stalks – My Love is Genuine
99 stalks – I Will Love You Till the Day I Die
100 stalks – I am Totally Devoted to You
101 stalks – You are My One and Only
999 stalks – My Love Will Last Till the End of Time
Anyone who’s going to be sending anything more than a hundred roses, must really really like flowers. Cuz that’s one heavy bouquet.
Till then, smelling the roses.
Elegant Single Flower arrangement January 18, 2007

I wanted to have a simple yet elegant arrangement on a table where we put all the family pics and came up with this creation. I like the idea of a big leaf against a single flower, and this is one which can stand on its own.
Have just been asked to come up with a pink rose flower arrangement for a guy friend of mine. He chose the colour and the flowers himself, so it saved me the headache of trying to come up with a “macho” floral arrangement. If there ever is such a thing. Lol.

Festive Season in Little India January 15, 2007

Went to Little India over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised by all the new flower shops which have sprouted up during the Pongal Festive Season.
I’d like to learn how to make these intricate garlands. I’ve seen the nimble hands working their magic and always wondered how they move their fingers so deftly. I’m going to try and learn how to make a simple one first. Will put up a picture soon!
And hopefully, it’ll look half as nice as these:)
Till then, smelling the roses.
